Can someone really open a bank account in Nigeria without a personal id card? Well, I can't really give a plain Yes or No answer because nowadays we've got a lot of banks and they do offer a variety of bank accounts.Having an id card is one of the basic requirements to opening a normal bank account in Nigeria but if you ask me, I think that banks should also offer a biometric registration option for people who don't have a personal form of id but have the funds to open a bank account. However, not every bank account today are normal since we've recently being introduced to mobile money. There are lots of people in Nigeria who may want to open a bank account but they get mostly tuned off when on a first visit to a bank, they are told to bring a whole lot of documents just to open a savings account. Not everyone has time to go to a bank or wait through the long procedure of opening an account when all they basically want is just to keep their money in a safe place for easy withdrawal, no questions asked. With the advent of banking products like mobile banking however, it seems that documentations or requirements for putting one's money into a bank account have been minimized since accounts like mobile money basically require are one's Date of birth, Mobile phone number and Address for the unbanked type.If you would rather open a bank account without having to provide a whole lot of documentations like your electric bill or personal id card, just go for mobile money account. With a mobile money account, your phone number is the account number and you don't need much documents to open this account and you can make withdrawals from ATMs even without a physical ATM card. Imagine that!

FCMB's naira wise account allows one to open an account without necessarily having an id card. Just bring your N500 and a recent passport photograph.

I think that will work if you were saving big money. Another option will be to stop receiving cash but rather accepting POS payments.
