If you've got an account at your bank, subscribing to the email alert service is something you should take advantage of if you've got an email address.

Since emails can easily be sent over the internet, most Nigerian banks I know of do offer this service for free since it basically cost them nothing.

Email notifications can be helpful to a bank customer since it can help you keep a tab on transactions on your bank account such as credits and debits on your account. If you or someone paid in cash into your bank account, you would want to get notified of it and same also if you or someone withdraw money from your account.

Apart from being notified via email of transactions on your account, banks also use email alerts to send you reminders, birthday cards as well as inform you of their latest promos and news. You get to know what's happening at your brand and the banking industry at large.

To start receiving email alerts, a customer just needs to fill an email subscription form for free at his bank and submit it. Most banks also include this option for new customers when opening an account. Once your application has been accepted, you should receive a welcome message to the service which is basically a free service offered by many banks in Nigeria.

You would need to have an email address, submit that email to your bank in the application and be able to check your email once in a while.

Email alerts are actually better than sms alerts since you would have to pay for the latter which is normally charged to your bank balance.

Since most Nigerian banks do offer a free email alert service, you should take advantage of it and move away from a bank that doesn't offer you this option.
