Kudos to Union bank's Saturday banking service

I knew that some Nigerian banks had started offering Saturday banking service in some of their branches and for some of us who don't have time to go to banks on weekdays, this is really a blessing. Same also to those who prefer going to banks when it is less crowdy.

Saturday banking is a service banks offer to customers at some of their branches on Saturday and they stay open to allow people do things like deposits, withdrawals, fund transfers and service requests.

I know that Banks like Stanbic IBTC, Union bank, Skye bank, Frist bank and in fact most other banks have started offering this service.

On a particular Saturday, during the holidays, I was looking for a bank to deposit some money since I didn't want to be carrying more than N5000 on me when ATM cards are now common and after visiting some banks, it was disappointing that their offices were mostly closed on Saturday. It was only when I visited a Union bank branch where I had an old account did I get some relief - They were open for business!

Although they didn't have much staff around it was ok since there were also few customers around and service was faster. I was able to deposit money into a Nigerian bank on a Saturday even though this was not possible in the past.

Most banks which open on Saturdays tend to open for about a few hours a day and close by around 2 or 3p.m. Not all branches are open however but it seems they are trying out this service in order to see if more customers would be willing to bank on Saturdays.

Some banks who also have branches in shopping malls in Lagos tend to open on Saturdays too and this is a good thing they are doing.
