I recently opened a Stanbic Mobile money account without having to go to the bank and it was easy, no long stories. I opened the mobile money account using my mobile phone and their*909# USSD code.
Well, now that I have a mobile money account and didn't have any funds in it, I couldn't do much with it except I add money to it just like a normal savings account. Yes just like a savings account, banks won't give you an ATM card or provide you additional service if you just open the account without putting in money in the account. So this is how I deposited money into my Stanbic IBTC mobile money account.- Went to a close branch with N10,000. There are many of them closeby nowadays
- Collected a teller and filled it like I'm making a normal deposit
- The account number is my registered phone number and it should begin with 23480++
- I also filled in the amount of cash in words and figures and signed
- Paid the money along with the teller to the bank teller
- The bank teller credited my mobile money account almost immediately. You can confirm by dialing *909# and replying 1 and 1 again to see your balance
- I was given a receipt of payment as proofNow I can use the cash in my mobile money account using Stanbic IBTC's USSD menu options. I can withdraw cardless from ATM, pay my DSTV or PHCN bills as well as transfer money to another person. With a mobile money account in Nigeria, you don't necessarily have to provide all the usual documents before an account is opened for you as you can simply open an account with just your mobile phone number.
