There is a new Skye bank Savings account one can open online in Nigeria without the need to visit the bank physically. It is called a SkyeFlex account and you can actually open one for free even with zero Naira as long as you have an internet connection.

SkyeFlex is a good example of instant online bank accounts now available in Nigeria.

TO open a SkyeFlex savings account, all you need is a digital copy of your passport photo and your signature. You just need to fill the online application form at Skyebank's website and then upload your photo and signature card for your account to be opened.

To open a SkyeFlex account as any other normal savings account, one needs to be of legal age i.e. 18 years, have a Nigerian address, phone number and then submit the online application form at

As usual with most of those instant online bank accounts, there are some conditions attached to using it such as a maximum single deposit of N20,000 and a maximum total savings of N200,000. What that means is that if you own the account, you can't deposit more than N20,000 at a time and by the time you have made a lot of deposits, it may not be more than N200,000. However, if your deposit goes higher than that amount, then you would need to go to the bank to upgrade the account and that would require providing more documentation.

The SkyeFlex account also comes with mobile banking option as well as a Verve debit card which will make you have easy access to your money. The steps to opening the account on the internet with Skyebank basically involves the following: 1. Knowing the Requirements > 2. Declaration > 3. Application Form > 4. Uploading Files > 5. Confirmation

I think I like the new policy now in the banking industry that makes it so easy for people to open bank accounts from the internet. It saves busy people time, energy and transportation cost to the bank.

I recall the first time I opened a bank account in one of those old generation banks, I had to go there a lot of times and also bring a lot of documents just to open a savings account. Besides, in those old days, going to banks was a waste of valuable time. Now with online opening of bank accounts in Nigeria and with little documentation, I think this would encourage a lot of people to keep their money in banks, no matter how much money they make.

Pls i opened a skye flex account online......jst becus my gtbank account failed mi nd i need it urgently bt i'v gotten interest in the skyeflex account.....so i used the account for a fund transfer nd the money is nothing less than 30,000k...so i wanna ask that will my account be credited if the money is sent
